Honeybees

We used to have thousands of honeybees around here but they seemed to vanish. This is one of them before they disappeared.

I didn't plant any new flowers this summer and wonder if I should have? I do have "Lavender" that all bees love and I did see lots of small, black, bumblebees on that this summer and yesterday I saw a honeybee on it, so the honeybees are still in the area and I am thankful for that.

There were two large hives of honeybees in the large maple tree behind out house and both hives left and landed on the spruce tree

Pollinators

Honeybee having lots of work to do if we are to eat--they are responsible for the pollination of the food crops people consume. Every time you spray insect killer on flowers or on any plant, it will linger there and kill any honeybee. This has led to colony collapse and hives are dieing all over the land. You need to plant flowers that bees are attracted to and then make sure you do not use chemicals to kill anything, including weed killer.

The American Honeybee is being killed by hive mites for sure but millions more are killed by pesticides and the residual effect of chemicals used on everything from flowers to grass in lawns. The Bumblebees had taken over a great deal of the work honeybees do and pollinated crops that ends up as food on our tables. Without bees pollinating food crops and everything else our diets would change in a drastic way and there would be mass starvation around the world. Don't believe it? Look it up.

You can help and so can I by planting a multitude of flowers–not all the same species but a different blend of flowers–that helps keep the bees in your area interested and healthy. Wallmart sells packs of wildflower seeds and wildflowers are much better than those hybrid flowers most people love to look at and plant.
